Album of the Week – The Often Herd ‘Where The Big Lamp Shines’

Written by on September 10, 2022

The Often Herd, a four-piece band from Newcastle, mix boldly contemporary and soothingly familiar sounds on their latest release, Where The Big Lamp Shines.

Their ten tracks are steeped in personal experience while drawing from a wide pool of influences ranging from old-time to psychedelia with fiery instrumental skills evident throughout as well.

The band – Rupert Hughes (guitar); Evan Davies (mandolin), Niles Krieger (fiddle) and Sam Quintana (jazz bass) – deftly take time-honoured traditions to new places with a fresh and impressive perspective.

They are about to undertake an extensive UK-wide promotional tour including dates in Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen and Dumfries.
