Album Of The Week – The Wilderness Yet: ‘What Holds The World Together’
Written by celtic music radio on July 23, 2022
This is an album of great charm centred around love, community and connection.
The Wilderness Yet bring deeply personal links to their music while exploring the world’s stories, seasons and sorrows, grounded in our relationship with the natural world.
Rosie Hodgson – voice, banjo; Rowan Piggott – voice, fiddles, double bass; Philippe Barnes – voice, guitar, flute plus Joe Danks – bodhran, percussion on five tracks, seamlessly craft songs that look at what it means to be human and play with delicacy and precision.
From The Last Shanachie, which features a wax cylinder recording of Rowan’s great-great-grandfather (a traditional Irish storyteller) to The Nightingale’s Lullaby – a song written to lull Rowan and Rosie’s new-born son to sleep – What Holds The World Together, focuses with gentle elegance on love, community and connection.
