The summer season of music festivals continues this week with the launch of the 44th Marymass Folk Festival in Irvine, Ayrshire from Wednesday 17 to Sunday 21 August.
Marymass is one of the most wellknown folk festivals in Scotland with an array of new and established artists performing including Johnny Silvo, Arthur Johnstone, Heather Heywood, Stephen Quigg, Lurach, The Buskers, Drantan, Doris Rougvie, The Past Masters, Stephen Leeson, Chuck Fleming and Vin Garbutt.
The Marymass programme has concerts, sessions and singarounds. Nineteen scheduled events make up this year’s Marymass Folk Festival – not included are the spontaneous gatherings which will evolve! Only six of the nineteen events have an admission price, so there really is little excuse not to enjoy some excellent music.
The Volunteer Rooms, 19 High Street, Irvine is one of the main venues for performances plus Vineburgh Community Centre, Quarry Road, Irvine and The Keys, 142 Harbour Street, Harbourside, Irvine, Ayrshire.
Marymass Folk Festival is part of the town’s annual Marymass Celebrations. It was set up in 1968 by members of Irvine Folk Club.
